Projector Throw Calculator
Convert between image width, throw distance, and throw ratio, or get screen width/height/diagonal from geometry.
Result
Throw distance: 2.65 m – 3.98 m
throw_ratio = throw_distance / image_width. This does not size brightness.
Find projectors that fit this setup Uses your entered image width and throw distance.
How this was calculated
- throw_ratio = throw_distance / image_width, so distance = width × ratio and width = distance / ratio.
- A min–max throw-ratio range returns a valid distance or width range.
- Screen geometry uses the selected aspect ratio. Diagonal and width are converted explicitly and labeled separately.
Limitations
- Lens shift, zoom real-world variance, and offset are not modeled.
- This does not recommend projector brightness or lumens.

throw ratio
Throw ratio is the distance from a projector’s lens to the screen divided by the projected image width. It helps you judge whether a projector can fit your room and screen.
Learn morelens shift
Lens shift moves the projected image horizontally or vertically without moving the projector. It can make installation easier when the projector cannot be centered precisely with the screen.
Learn moreANSI lumens
ANSI lumens measure a projector’s light output using a standardized test method. A higher figure generally means a brighter image, but it is not a rating of overall picture quality.
